What is a Sari?

A sari is a traditional female outfit with an elegant silhouette.

In this outfit is 3 separate pieces:

- A fitted blouse

- A petticoat for under the sari wrapping

- Long fabric that is called the sari, which is typically 6 yards long

A sari is the most common term used when people think about what to wear to an Indian wedding. A sari worn by a woman is a very classy and elegant look, but it is complicated to tie around! It requires safety pins and is difficult to dance in. If you are set on wearing a sari, we recommend trying out one of our pre-pleated styles that are worn similar to a lehenga...which brings us to the next section!

What is a Lehenga?

A Lehenga is a traditional female outfit also with a very elegant silhouette, but it's much easier to put on than a sari!

This outfit can be up to 3 pieces as well:

- A fitted blouse

- A skirt

- A light-weight scarf (called a dupatta, odhni, or chunni) that can be draped on your shoulder

When a female wedding guest wears a lehenga at an Indian wedding it is often the perfect outfit! It's very easy to put on and move around in, and is a beautiful formal style. Often times the lehenga will come with a can-can underneath to add volume to the body of the skirt - expect the perfect princess-y swish while moving around.

What is an Anarkali?

An Anarkali can be a long A-line top that typically hits mid-calf, with pants underneath. Alternatively, it can be a full-length gown.

This outfit can be up to 3 pieces as well!

- A long top or gown

- A light-weight scarf (called a dupatta, odhni, or chunni) that can be draped on your shoulder

- Sometimes pants underneath

An Anarkali is an outfit we recommend and is closest to a typical western dress. It's very easy to put on and move around in.
